Thora Birch

Thora Birch was born March 11th 1983. She is an American producer, actress, and director. In 1988 she made her feature film debut in the film Purple People Eater. For this role, she received the Young Artist Award as "Best Young Actress Under nine years of age". Birch gained notoriety in the role of a child-star and appeared in films such as All I Want for Christmas (1991), Patriot Games (1992), Hocus Pocus (1993), Monkey Trouble (1994), Now and Then (1995), and Alaska (1996).Her breakthrough role came in 1999 when she played Jane Burnham in the highly well-received film American Beauty, for which she was awarded an BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Following that, she appeared in Ghost World (2001) as Enid. She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Birch was nominated for an Emmy Award for her performance in Homeless To Harvard The Liz Murray Story in 2003. Other films she has appeared in include Dungeons & Dragons (2000), The Hole (2001), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006), Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009) and Petunia (2012).After taking a break from acting, Birch was back in the spotlight in the year 2016 and has since starred in a variety of independent films. Birch also played the role of Whisperer Maryor Gamma in the Walking Dead's Season 10. Birch was the oldest of the children born to Jack Birch (and Carol Connors) in Los Angeles. Birch who's family's first surname was Biersch is of German-Jewish, Scandinavian, French-Canadian and Italian origins. "Thora" is her name. It comes from the Norse god Thor thunder and lightning. If she were a boy, this would have been her full name. Kian Bolt Birch is her younger brother. Both parents were former actors in adult films and appeared in Deep Throat. Based on their own experiences working in the entertainment industry and their own experience, they were hesitant initially to support Thora. However, Thora's image was shown to agents when a babysitter had seen her fake commercials. Birch received her first major break at the age four, when the babysitter took her to a successful audition for an Quaker Oats commercial.
